About the Author
Paul Leone grew up on a strange diet of Tolkien, Lewis, Lucas, Roddenberry, Stoker, monster movies and comic books. This genre passion has inexplicably fused with his entrance into the Catholic Church to give you the Vatican Vampire Hunters series and his other works. He currently resides in Western New York with a cat who is not at all interested in his overly large collection of bad movies.

A unique take on vampires

It is such a relief to read a book about vampires in which the vampires in question are actually evil and not brooding and pining for some teenage girl. The Mysterious Albion features a group of vampire hunters operating in secret as part of the Catholic church in London. In a word, it's a great blend of Catholicism, (without being too reverent/preachy) sharp wit, vampire lore and also has a nice romantic subplot that's adorable.
Lucy in particular is a fantastic character. She's not a two-dimensional sexpot, but is instead a fully realized woman dealing with loss by finding a determination to fight back. This book follows her training as she joins the secret group of hunters and enters the world of the supernatural. It's always a treat to have a strong female protagonist who is three-dimensional, brave in the face of things that would make anyone's blood run cold, but perfectly human and therefore dealing with stakes that are higher than they might be for those who would have some sort of special abilities.
There's also a very nice integration of British culture and descriptions of various spots within London and Catholic culture. This book is very rich in building the supernatural into a beautifully described version of that existing world and culture.
I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in the series!

It's got teeth...sharp ones!

I've just started reading this, but find the character of Lucy to be very relatable. She's not a "Mary Sue" nor are any of the group she gets involved with, which I find delightful. His villains are recognizably evil, but have a freshness to them that keeps them interesting to read. I'll certainly finish this novel this week, and fully expect I'll be eagerly awaiting book 2. Well done, author!

Have completed the novel, and as I expected, I quite enjoyed it. Readers of vampire, zombie, horror, contemporary drama, and/or any combination of the above should enjoy 'Mysterious Albion'.

Finally a vampire series appropriate for young adults!

I read this book before allowing my 12 year old to read it and I have to admit, I really enjoyed it! In Mysterious Albion, we're finally back to the vampires being evil bad guys instead of sex objects. The author takes vampire myth back to it's roots, but keeps it fresh with a whole team of Catholic demon hunters. I loved the multiple strong female role models that were more concerned with defeating evil than wanting to sleep with it. My daughter loved it too and immediately asked me to get her the next in the series. I can't wait for more to come out!
