Maegan Provan is a New Adult Urban Fantasy author working on her first series The Night Touched Chronicles. She is currently based in Texas with her husband and her dog. When not writing, she spends a lot of time watching old shows on Netflix, goofing off on Facebook and playing PC games, like Guild Wars 2 and Minecraft. Maegan is a huge fan of the works of Joss Whedon and Cassandra Clare, drawing a lot of the inspiration from their work.

Finally! Fresh vampires! (No sparkle here, thank goodness)

I read a lot of urban fantasy (really, that's pretty much it, aside from the occasional horror/zombie novel), and this includes a crap-ton of vampire novels. There's literally a sea of vampire novels out there, and it's exceedingly difficult to stand out in a sea of vampires.
That being said, I can safely say this book qualifies for 'a new take on vampire'. They're not broody, they're not sparkly, and they're not angst'd up. They're rather human as you read along, until they up and munch on somebody. (Delicious). It's a freaky (in a good way) take on being humanistic vampires, and fantasy vampires. Her vampires aren't just blood suckers; there's some magical systems put in place, and that's always cool.
I love the idea of a Night Touched vampire. They're 'elite' and 'rare' without being mary-sue and overpowered. Without giving too much away, the mark thing is pretty freakin' badass.
If badass vampires weren't good enough, the romance is hot and steamy, and the ending will definitely leave you thirsty for the sequel.
Celine: The Night Touched Chronicles Book 1 does not disappoint!

Admittedly, I've always been more of a fan of the traditional vampire than the modern one. While "Celine: The Night Touched Chronicles Book One" is definitely more of the latter than the former, I was impressed with Maegan Provan's fresh take on the topic. Gone from her novel are the Edwards and Bellas of the literary world. They've been replaced by... the best way I can describe Harper, Lily and Jason is Anne Rice meets "Sex in the City." Her vampires are contemporary, high society denizens of the New York night. They attend parties, talk sports and fashion and mingle with humans. In short? They seem like normal people. That is, until they start feeding on the blood of normal people.
The twist involving a different species of vampire--the Night Touched--is also intriguing, and the story was engaging enough to keep me interested throughout. The plot moves which makes "Celine" a very quick read. I hope to get more background on the Night Touched vampires in the subsequent sequels as [SPOILER ALERT (?)] very little is written in this book about their history, but I will recommend this book to anyone interested in reading a fresh take on a topic that has become progressively more and more brooding and overwrought in the recent past.
My lone, major complaint is about the editing. Simple errors throughout, especially in the last 25% or so of the novel, make for choppy reading in the build up to the book's climax. Still, "Celine: The Night Touched Chroniclers Book One" was overall an enjoyable read. Congratulations on your debut novel, Maegan! I look forward to reading the sequel!

Awesome start to the series!

I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed this book from the very beginning. The cover is stunning! This book had a way about it. It was an easy read because it was action packed and kept the reader interested. I liked how there are two types of vampires and I found the background about each type very interesting. I also liked how the author incorporated other supernatural beings, but they didn't take away from the vampires.
I enjoyed reading about Harper but I would like to know more about her. I want to know how she was turned and how old she was when it happened. I want to learn more about her family and before she became night touched. I also want to learn more about the night touched, they seem to have evolved powers and I want to see what else they can do. I loved that Harper was so loyal to her "sister" Celine, that she was willing to risk her life for her, even though they had never met before. The same goes for Celine, I want her story. I also really enjoyed Jason and Lily and I liked that Jason had opened up to Harper. And Silas, can't wait to see what happens there. Will he choose love or duty?
All in all, this was a great start to the trilogy. I can't wait to read more and find out where the story leads. I would recommend this book to vampire lovers. I look forward to the rest of the series.
